How do I create Teams and Departments?

By setting up Teams and Departments, you also control admin permissions and analytics access. Admins with department-level permissions see data for all teams in that department, while team-level permissions limit access to specific teams. This ensures users only access the data they need for their roles.

Teams and departments on the Kepler + Co platform will match the teams and departments in your company but are only used for data management and analytics. Having the teams and departments structure makes skill assignment, people management, and content mapping much easier.

Teams can only belong to one department, and users can only belong to one team. However, it is possible to change users' teams.

Step 1: After you've landed on your admin page (you will be automatically taken to your 'People Page'), navigate to 'Departments'.

Step 2: On the department page, you'll see a 'Create a department' button on the top left. You can also use the CTA in the middle of the screen if you haven't added any departments.

Step 3: A focus panel will open up on the right, and you can capture the department's name.

Step 4: Click on 'Submit' at the bottom of the page.

Step 5: Navigate to 'Teams' in your side menu.

Step 6: Click on 'Create a team' to create your new team.

Step 7: Capture the team name and select the department you would like to assign the team to.

We have built the platform so that teams are nested in departments in a hierarchy. If you would like to assign a team to a specific department, you must create that department first. Once you have done so, you can choose that department from the dropdown.

Step 8: Click on 'Submit' at the bottom of the page, and you're all set to go.

Note: Setting up Teams and Departments in this way helps manage permissions for administration, analytics, and other platform features. If a user gets permission to view analytics for a department, they will have access to all the teams in that department. However, if their permissions are limited to specific teams, they will only have access to those teams and not the entire department. This ensures that users are only given the data they need to make decisions that best serve their team.
